A defibrillator is a medical device made primarily from electronic parts, which have their limitations, despite more and more advanced designs and solutions from manufacturers. Too low or too high temperature can cause the defibrillator, to enter an error state, that will stop the device.
In addition, especially in the summer, sustained high temperatures may accelerate the aging of the adhesive on the defibrillator electrodes with a consequent reduction in the effectiveness of the electrodes sticking to the patient’s body and will eventually require their more frequent and costly replacement.
The AED Climate BOX is not an ordinary cabinet, but a device that protects and creates the appropriate conditions for the 24-hour storage and monitoring of most defibrillators on the market. Because of applied design solutions, it allows for effective counteracting the problems of most ordinary defibrillator cabinets.
Final influence for inside cabinet conditions depends from local environment and installation place and they are not guaranteed.
The AED Climate BOX is equipped with two mechanical fans of 60m3/h capacity each. Cool air from outside is drawn in through the ventilation ducts in the lower part of the cabinet, while hot air is eliminated by the fans through the ducts in the upper part. In case of detecting too high temperature for a given AED model, the electronic module activates ventilation and controls its efficiency until the set temperature is reached. The temperature of switching on and off the ventilation can be set individually via WiFi. In addition, there are ready-made ventilation holes in the cabinet body for natural ventilation to prevent surface water vapour condensation.
The internal walls of the cabinet are insulated with an insulation material with a thermal conductivity coefficient of 0.042W/m2. Because of 100W heating element at the bottom of the cabinet, a minimum temperature of +10°C is guaranteed, when the outside temperature is -20°C. The heating on and off temperature can be set individually via WiFi. This allows you to adjust the internal temperature appropriate and recommended by the manufacturer of the device.
This unique solution allows you to monitor the status of the defibrillator and its battery. The AED Climate BOX control module is equipped with a microphone that listens to the signals emitted by the defibrillator. Each sound is properly interpreted by the module and read out according with the error codes of the AED manufacturer. With access to the optional AED Connect cloud, you will receive notification of the errors and the type of problem occurring, so you can react immediately and fix the problem. Currently, the signal monitoring module has the ability, to read signals from the most popular AED models, and the model database is still being expanded.
AED Climate BOX is equipped with an RGB diode which, by changing the colors, informs about the current operation of the cabinet and shows any damage or failure of control elements such as: heating element, power supply, WiFi or GSM, battery, ventilation, etc. It is a quick visual information for the user without the need for physical control. All this information is also sent to AED Connect, where you can monitor the AED Climate BOX in real time.
AED Climate BOX cabinets, equipped with an electronic module, have an emergency power supply, which allows for the implementation of basic alarm functions informing about opening the cabinet door or removing the AED. Despite the emergency power supply, the cabinet remains connected to the AED Connect cloud. When main power is restored, the batteries are automatically recharged.
Some defibrillators have their own communication modules that require power or other various additional devices are connected. Most of them require a USB power supply. The electronic module has a built-in USB A socket, which allows you to power such devices. The power of the socket is 5V, 3A.
The AED Climate BOX, in addition to the standard WiFi connection, can be equipped with a GSM module. It provides access to the AED Connect cloud in places where it is not possible to connect to local WiFi. In addition, it allows you to create your own hotspot in order to provide a GSM internet connection via WiFi for AED devices that require connection to their own cloud. This way, no matter where we are, we always have access to the Internet and data.
A defibrillator presence sensor in the cabinet avoids false alarms. Opening a door and ringing out an acoustic alarm does not always mean providing help. Therefore, the AED presence sensor in the cabinet inform you whether the defibrillator has been removed from the cabinet or is still there.
It is difficult to make a cabinet construction that will fully protect against vandalism and attempted destruction. However, a built-in accelerometer detects any attempted vandalism and and triggers an acoustic alarm and send the information to AED Connect. Each alarm gets the attention of others and can effectively limit negative actions.
The electronic module has two external outputs allowing for connection of external acoustic and sound alarms or direct connection to the building’s alarm central.
